Cosmetic whitening is a non-invasive treatment option for patients wishing to lighten the shade of their smile. There are a plethora of options available for whitening. For quick results, in-clinic bleaching trays and lights are sometimes used. Although these options give the fastest result by using the strongest bleaching concentrations, the bleaching process sometimes leads to lasting sensitivities. At our clinic we prefer the home whitening system. The home whitening system allows for the patient to brighten their smiles at home using reduced concentrations of bleaching agents.
This system generally requires two visits. The first appointment will be used to take an impression of your teeth in order to fabricate a custom tray. During the second appointment, the doctor will adjust the tray for a proper fit and give you take home instructions, the medication, and answer any questions you may have. It is normal to have sensitivity during the whitening period but it should subside shortly after the bleaching process.
