Dental fillings are used to restore function to teeth that have been damaged through caries and decay. The area of fracture or decay is first removed mechanically. The remaining cavity is then filled in with a dental material. Currently, a variety of materials including composite resin, amalgam, and glass ionomers are used. Each material has its advantages and disadvantages in terms of strength, wear, longevity, and more.
Dental fillings are usually completed within the same day of the appointment. The process includes removing the decay/ fractured area and filling in the remaining space with one of the dental materials listed above. Dr. Qiao will look at your individual case and recommend a dental material that addresses both aesthetics and functionality.
