Upon your first visit, a comprehensive dental exam will be performed by the dentist. This includes taking the necessary radiographs (x-rays) as well as an intraoral examination of your natural teeth, gums, and existing restorations (crowns, fillings, bridges, etc.). Your oral cavity will also be screened for oral cancer. This is then followed by professional dental cleaning which will remove calculus and plaque. Your teeth will also be polish to remove stains on all surfaces. We recommend that patients get routine checkups and cleanings every 6 months.
Routine checkup and cleaning is important because over time, plaque hardens and becomes impossible to remove with regular brushing. In addition early cavities can be detected and repaired helping to avoiding future invasive and costly procedures like crowns and root canals therapy.
